Chair's Update

November 2021

As the nights get darker (and wetter and colder) its good to see our numbers on a Wednesday evening increasing again. I am sorry we are not offering the warmth of the Old Assembly Rooms but we are trying to keep fresh air and social distance as much as possible. Spoiler alert - the AGM will be in the Assembly Rooms and hopefully we will have plenty of space for those who come along. More on this in a moment.

Thank you to all those who completed the survey, we will share the results as soon as we can, but in response to some of your comments Phil has started a Sunday morning trail run once a month, Pub night has started on the first Wednesday of each month and we will also be providing a “squash and biscuits” alternative occasionally (next one at the AGM if you need encouragement to attend).

Turning to the AGM, sadly Lisa and James have decided to step down from the Committee but both have promised to stay active in the Club, and James remains as Social Secretary and Corker Race Director. Sue Carter and Nik Whalley have agreed to put themselves forward for election at the AGM. Both are accredited coaches and have been on the Committee before. They bring much experience and talent and your Committee recommends their appointment. Sue has also agreed to take on the role of Womens’ Captain and will assume the weekly organisation of run leaders, which has been one of the many challenges Richard Connett has faced over recent years.

We are proposing the membership subscription remains at £12 for the coming year. The additional, optional, English Athletics (EA) subscription is increasing to £16. We would usually draw for the London Marathon place at the AGM. We have had confirmation that a place will be available to our members but we have decided to defer the draw until early in the New Year in line with the new timetable for the marathon.

Happy running

Tony
