Race report

So today I'm proud to report that 8 intrepid Strugglers undertook the long journey to mid Devon to take part in the serious sounding Devon Cross Country Championships at Exeter Arena.
Jo Sleep and Heather Cooke both ran well and looked good in a large and tough field, (mixed age and gender waves), with Jo beating Heather by a few places. Unfortunately we weren't able to source a third lady to contest the team prizes, so both deserve extra praise for coming down and battling regardless.
For the men we had 6, the bare minimum required for the Senior team prize. Jack Batchelor elbowed his way through impressively to finish superbly in 42, which should help illustrate the size of each wave! Myself, Dan Nettelfield, Ashley Bond, Richard Connett and Simon Goodman followed in that order, great runs from a team at various levels of fitness/fatigue!
We didn't hang around for the prize-giving but Devon AA have been in touch and I'm delighted to say that...
Fellsman Dan Nettelfield won bronze in the Vet 35 category;
Evergreen Jack Batchelor won GOLD in the Vet 45 category, and...;
Jack, Dan and the resurgent Richard Connett won silver in the Veteran Mens team prize!
Thanks to all for coming and supporting me in this, at late notice. If Richard and Jack hadn't stepped in at the last minute we would have come out of this with far less to shout about, I'm glad they got their reward!
Also a mention must go to Sarah Smith, who really put in work to try and help us get a 3rd lady.
If you would like to get involved with something of the same ilk, there will be a virtual repeat performance at Exeter Race Course, on January the 8th. EA registered ladies especially, would be lovely to bring a few more of you with us. Speak to Sarah or I (otherwise we'll speak to you...)
